Cambridge Driving Test Centre

The two test centres in Cambridge feature a wide diversity of roads. Cambridge Brookmount Court driving test centre is located around narrow residential roads that require excellent control of the car due to narrow lanes and hazards from approaching traffic and parked cars (see passing parked cars).

One-way-systems feature heavily as do many roundabouts (both large muli-lane to small mini roundabouts), various types of junctions and crossroads.

Chesterton Road and Cowley Road Test Centre is replaced with Cambridge Brookmount Court driving test centre and is situated closer to dual carriageways (A14) and rural roads (see the country road driving tutorial).

A good understanding of joining these high speed roads is essential. Driving outside of Cambridge through villages and rural roads are likely. Being hazardous, these roads are high speed and due to narrow lane constraint widths feature sharp bends. Excellent understanding of all 4 driving test manoeuvres and the emergency stop is essential.

Test routes are not planned so if u get stuck behind another learner on their test, and they mess up, it impacts your test too.

This new test centre is much more pleasant than either Cowley Rd or Chesterton Rd - light, airy and spacious. The examiner, Barbara, was friendly and quite chatty, which I appreciated, despite her bad reputation. I couldn't fault her
