Driving test routes are used by DVSA examiners to ensure test candidates cover as many diverse roads and traffic systems as possible so to judge their driving ability, safety and awareness.

Extended driving test routes typically cover greater distances than standard routes and as such represent a higher challenge. As well as tougher test routes, the extended driving test often features more test manoeuvres.

Extended driving tests are only required by individuals who have had their licence revoked by a court due to a traffic violation. Before the individual is entitled to drive again, they must pass the extended driving test. Listed below in this section are the DVSA extended driving test routes ‘S’.
